Steps to install Brave Browser in Ubuntu 18.10

Many users are getting errors while trying to install the Brave browser in the latest version of Ubuntu i.e., Ubuntu 18.10 – Cosmic Cuttlefish. It is easy to install in the Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, but whereas in the non-LTS version, the repositories were unsigned. So, here we are gonna see the steps to install Brave Browser (Beta only, not the release version or dev version) in the Ubuntu 18.10.

How to install Brave Browser (Beta) in Ubuntu 18.10 Cosmic Cuttlefish:

  • Open the Terminal by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T shortcut keys.
  • Enter the following command

curl -s https://brave-browser-apt-beta.s3.brave.com/brave-core-nightly.asc | sudo apt-key add –

  • Enter the following command

echo “deb [arch=amd64] https://brave-browser-apt-beta.s3.brave.com/ `lsb_release -sc` main” | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/brave-browser-beta-`lsb_release -sc`.list

  • Enter the following command

sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/brave-browser-beta-cosmic.list

  • You will see one line there similar to “deb [arch=amd64] https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com/ cosmic main”.  Now replace this line with the following and press Ctrl+S to save and Ctrl+X to exit after.

deb [arch=amd64] https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com/ bionic main

  • After saving and exiting, now enter the following commands one after the other:

sudo apt update

sudo apt install brave-browser-beta

  • That’s it! You’ve successfully installed Brave browser!
