How to remove ads from Youtube Android application? (Youtube Vanced)

After introduction of Youtube Premium subscription, Youtube is a bit aggressive in their advertising model and pushing a lot of ads.  In laptops, we have different solutions like using Brave browser or installing Ad blockers in Chrome / Firefox or whatever browser we are using.  In fact, even in mobile, I used Brave browser and disabled the default pre-installed Youtube app to get rid of ads.

But, using Youtube application is simple, responsive and a lot easier than opening in browser apps.  Coming to the point, I use an application called Youtube Vanced, which is obviously will not be available in the Play Store, because Google itself can’t kill their app.  Youtube Vanced is a FOSS application developed by the well known XDA developers.  You might have been familiar with XDA if you have installed any custom ROM in your device.

How to install Youtube Vanced?

YouTube Vanced is a popular modded version of YouTube. It adds a number of features to the official YouTube app, including built-in adblocking, background playback, black/dark themes, and much more. This page has installation instructions and download links for non-rooted devices. YouTube Vanced for rooted devices can be found here.

It’s simple and free.  Just open and download the latest non-root APK.  If you open this link, they will guide you that you need to install another app called “MicroG” (optional).  This is required only if you want to login to your google account in the Youtube Vanced account.  If you don’t want a login, just directly download the APK and install.

So, if you want login also, first install MicroG and the install Youtube Vanced.  If you want to use only Youtube Vanced app without login, then you only need Step 2.

Note: Do not install Youtube Vanced first & MicroG later, as it results in crashes.  If you face this issue, then uninstall both the apps and install MicroG first and then Youtube Vanced.

That’s it! Open Youtube Vanced and use it!  Also, if you can’t uninstall your existing Youtube app, disable it by going into settings to avoid default opens.
